Following the WNBA, NBA, and several MLB teams in boycotting their playoff/regular season games in protest of the shooting of Jacob Blake on Wednesday, the NHL looks to finally be taking action of their own.

According to several outlets, the NHL has already postponed Thursday’s Stanley Cup playoff games with Friday’s likely to follow suit. This comes after the deserved criticism the league faced following their inaction on Wednesday and reported push by many players within the bubble to join the other leagues in boycotting their games.
Important to note that it was players in the bubble reaching out to Kane and Dumba to come on their call. Today has all the feeling of a players-led initiative. https://t.co/bagLL7UZhB

Should this have happened last night? Yes. Better late than never? Absolutely. Evander Kane and Mathew Dumba took to social media last night to voice their displeasure in the league’s lack of action. After all the words that were said several weeks ago it fell thunderously flat when there was no response last night. Kane and Dumba were right to criticize the league and apparently the league, and the players, listened.
Exactly. The PLAYERS took a stand today, they stepped up. Proud of my fellow nhl PLAYERS for their action. https://t.co/IKcsvcoUbl

In addition, Kane and ‘The Hockey Diversity Alliance’ released a statement requesting that the league suspend all playoff games on Thursday and that they requested that the league sign the ‘HDA Pledge’ which includes commitments to funding “impactful social justice initiatives” and “anti racism education”. Among many other things.

Kane and the Hockey Diversity Alliance both said they hope this is done by the end of the playoffs. As it should be.
