On Monday, April 12, an extended meeting of the Council and the Board of KHL’s “Dinamo Rīga” took place to make a final decision on the appointment of the new head coach.
The Council approved Sergei Zubov as the head coach of the Dinamo Riga hockey team for the 14th KHL season.

Sergei Zubov: ”I am very grateful to the management of Dinamo Riga for the trust shown, and I will do my best to make the fans of the Riga team happy with the performance and the results shown on the ice. I understand that the situation is not easy, but it is a challenge that I have accepted and I will do my best, the possible and impossible for the team to fight for the play-off again. There is a lot of work to be done on team building and the development of a specific preparation plan, and I will immediately start working and will work closely with the management of the Dinamo Riga club.”
Zubov’s deal with the Latvian-based KHL is for one season.

The 50-year-old is a former Russian defenceman who has spent significant time playing for the Dallas Stars in the NHL winning the Stanley cup twice. He has an Olympic gold medal under his belt. As a head coach, he has spent time on the bench of SKA St.Petersburg in 2015, in 2017 he signed with HK Sochi spending two full seasons, and was fired when his third season started. After that, he worked for the Dallas Stars as a senior advisor.
