Brady Tkachuk Staying in Ottawa Long Term
This was a big storyline heading into the 2021-22 NHL Season. Tkachuk was the last remaining RFA to sign a contract. There was a lot of talk about what Tkachuk and the team wanted. The initial reports were that Tkachuk wanted a bridge deal instead of a long-term deal. While the Senators were looking to lock up him up long-term. In the end, both sides made a deal that best suits them. Tkachuk gets the money he is looking for, while the Senators get the term.
Told Brady Tkachuk did not receive any signing bonus money as part of structure. #Sens have held firm – no player on their roster (outside of ELC) has SB$.

“We’re thrilled to come to a long-term agreement with Brady,” said Senators owner and governor Eugene Melnyk in a statement released on Thursday. “He’s a valuable member of our leadership group, is universally respected by his teammates and a player we’re certain will have a significant impact on our success in the seasons ahead.”

The Senators have been in a rebuild after going to the Eastern Conference Final in 2017 losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins in double overtime. Ever since then, the Senators have been trying to hold to their players but instead had to move players like Erik Karlsson and Mark Stone. But lately, the Senators have been able to sign their young players to long-term deals. Especially the ones they drafted.
Brady Tkachuk joins Drake Batherson and Thomas Chabot as players the Senators drafted and signed to be in Ottawa long-term. The team sees him as a big part of their future and potentially as captain material.
“This is an exciting day for the Ottawa Senators,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in the press release on Thursday. “Brady possesses a very dynamic skill set and is a prototypical power forward in today’s NHL. He scores goals, he plays physically and exemplifies what it means to be a pro for all players in our organization.”
Tkachuk was drafted fourth overall in the 2018 NHL Draft. In 198 career NHL games, he has recorded 125 points (60 goals and 65 assists). During the 56 game season last year, he led the team in scoring with 36 points (17 goals and 19 assists). That was the second consecutive year Tkachuk led the team in points. Things are only going up from there.
