New York Rangers – Jake DeBrusk
Rumor: Per – Jeff Marek – sportsnet.ca. Per Marek the New York Rangers have inquired about Jake DeBrusk. “Ya, the New York Rangers, one of the more interesting teams to watch come the trade deadline time. We know their having a really good season and looking for at least one more forward.”

Analysis: Could the New York Rangers be looking to add forward Jake DeBrusk? They have already made an offer to the Arizona Coyotes for Jakob Chychrun. Adding both a forward and a defenseman would really bolster the Rangers needs. When it comes to salary cap restrictions, the Rangers are sitting pretty. They currently have over $14 million in cap space per Capfriendly.com.
Newly appointed general manager Chris Drury is in the process of improving the already successful Rangers roster. The Blueshirts are leading the Metropolitan Division with a 28-11-4 record and have won seven of their last 10 games. Being able to add either/both of these players will only cement their chances in the playoffs. DeBrusk has been in NHL rumors for a while since his early December trade request. We knew it may take time for things to happen, so is it a good time for the Rangers to go after the struggling forward? He has just six goals, seven assists in 34 games this season.

Colorado Avalanche – Giroux or Pavelski
Rumor: Per – Elliotte Friedman/Jeff Marek – sportsnet.ca. Friedman considers the Colorado Avalanche a good fit for Claude Giroux if he wants to chase a Stanley Cup provided they can make the cap dollars fit. Marek also suggested the Dallas Stars Joe Pavelski as another fit for the Avs.
Analysis: While both of these veteran forwards could supplement the already potent offense of the Av’s, there are barriers causing it to not happen. In Giroux’s case the Av’s are already hurting for cap space with just $73,442 left in the coiffures. That won’t get anything done, so some huge salary retentions needs to happen. Giroux’s $8.275 contract will hinder most deals to move him.
In Pavelski’s case, he shows no sign of his 37 years and has collected an amazing 17 goals, 27 assists in 39 games. Now wouldn’t you want to have that scoring capability in the playoffs? Of course, that may be exactly what the Stars are thinking. And, Pavelski prefers to stay in Dallas. That makes any trade for either of these excellent players a remote possibility.
Arizona Coyotes – Travis Boyd
Rumor: Per – David Pagnotta – thefourthperiod.com. Pagnotta’s list of top-30 trade watch list has Travis Boyd as #12. He could land on a team needing bottom-six depth. His 10 goals, 10 assists in 33 games could come in handy for a playoff bound team.
Analysis: While the Arizona Coyotes may be moving lots of players, for Boyd playing there has shown his offensive capabilities. The Yotes aren’t going anywhere with the NHL’s second worst record of 10-27-4. Time for a rebuild, and Boyd will be moving on for what else… draft picks.
Boyd would also be a reasonable addition since his current contract only calls for $750,000. He has been a workhorse too, logging in over 15 minutes of playing time per game. He’s a right-handed shooting center and they are difficult to come by. His 23.8 percent shooting accuracy means he should be getting the puck more often. Boyd will be a good addition to some team.
That wraps up another edition of NHL rumors, be sure to catch our Sunday edition this weekend.
