Welcome to the Tuesday edition of Full Press Hockey‘s NHL Rumors. With over a month to the trade deadline, instead of the usual two days a week for NHL Rumors, we will be upping our coverage to four days a week. This time we will cover the New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, and Boston Bruins.
New York Rangers – Joe Pavelski
Rumor: Per – Dan Rosen – NHL.com Senior Writer. Rosen feels the New York Rangers should target Stars forward Joe Pavelski, who is in the final season of a three-year, $21 million contract ($7 million AAV).

Analysis: The Rangers have needs for a top-six forward and Pavelski fits the bill. The dude who is 37 years old is playing like he is on a mission. He has collected 19 goals, 29 assists in 42 games. He is not slowing down, averaging 17:45 minutes a game. There’s really no downside to Pavelski’s play. He is an awesome playoff performer with 119 points in 162 games. What is really amazing is his possession stats. His 58.6 Corsi For and 9.2 Relative Corsi means he helps his team endlessly when they have the puck.
Now whether or not the Dallas Stars want to move him just yet is another question. As of this writing the Stars are tied with the Calgary Flames for the last wild card spot in the West. What Pavelski would provide for the Blueshirts is that net front presence where he shines. He could slide right into the second power play unit and solidify the Rangers as a threat in the postseason. Salary shouldn’t deter acquiring Pavelski with the New York club showing $12.8 million in cap space.

Florida Panthers – Owen Tippett
Rumor: Jeff Marek – sportsnet.ca. Marek reported that the Florida Panthers who are in an “all-in” mode for the playoffs, one name he keeps hearing is Owen Tippett.
Analysis: Tippett who was a 2017 10th overall selection by Florida has 12 goals, 35 points in his 85 games with the Panthers. He has tallied six goals, eight assists in 40 games this season. It seems that any major trade that Florida may entertain may include Tippett’s name. The goal of the team is no doubt to acquire a top-four defenseman like Jakob Chychrun. There’s all kinds of rumors about where Chychrun may go and if it’s to Florida, Tippett may be one of the returns to Arizona
The Arizona Coyotes would expect more than Tippett if they moved Chychrun. Per George Richards, floridahockeynow.com, Grigori Denisenko, Florida’s first-round pick in 2018 who is currently playing in Charlotte, would be expected to be included into any mid-to-major sized deal Florida is involved in. He has nine goals, nine assists in 30 games in the AHL.
In any case, it appears that Tippett should perhaps have his bags packed as his movement seems likely. The Panthers are going for it.
Boston Bruins – Jake DeBrusk Trade Possibility
Rumor: per- Dan Rosen – NHL.com Senior Writer. Rosen replied in his mailbag about a trade proposal he received from a fan. It included: To the Boston Bruins: Jakob Chychrun and Lawson Crouse; to the Arizona Coyotes: Jake DeBrusk, Jeremy Swayman, Trent Frederic, Urho Vaakanainen, Boston’s 2022 first-round pick and its 2023 third-round pick.
Analysis: Rosen liked the proposed deal except he is not in favor of moving Swayman since Tuukka Rask‘s future is unknown. He thought the third rounder is a bit much too. Otherwise, the deal from Boston’s view sounded good.
From the Coyotes side of the ice, this deal would not be enough to trade both Chychrun AND Crouse. It was recently revealed by Coyotes insider Craig Morgan that Crouse was getting attention for a trade but that the team is not looking to move him. Morgan stated, “On the other hand, you can forget about all that trade talk. Crouse isn’t going anywhere. The Coyotes don’t have anybody that looks like Crouse in their system so if they were to trade him, the first thing they’d be looking for is his replacement. With his combination of size, skill, speed, and grit, Crouse fits the Armstrong mold for a team perfectly”.
The whole DeBrusk to Arizona deal is dependent of how the Coyotes feel about him for their future, including their rebuild. Perhaps a more realistic trade may be Chuchrun for Debrusk, Frederic and a 2022 first round pick. Maybe even throw in Vaakanainen for good measure.
