Welcome to the Thursday edition Full Press Hockey’s NHL Rumors. The trade deadline is a little less than three weeks away and the rumors off the ice continue to swirl around players being moved and contending teams preparing for the push to the playoffs. Therefore, we here at Full Press Hockey will continue to deliver NHL Rumors four times a week. The March 3rd edition of NHL Rumors looks at the Boston Bruins, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Detroit Red Wings.
Boston Bruins – Jake DeBrusk
Rumor: Per Pierre Lebrun of TSN on Insider Trading, Boston Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk still wants to be traded and has informed his agent to talk to teams about an extension which may help facilitate a trade.

At the beginning of the season, Jake DeBrusk informed the Bruins he would like to be traded. That sentiment has not changed despite DeBrusk going on a heater. Since joining in the top line of Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron, Jake DeBrusk has recorded seven points over the past nine games. He also has seven goals in his past five games. Including a natural hat trick against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night.
The issue for teams has been DeBrusk’s qualifying offer of $4.4 million this offseason. See, DeBrusk is a restricted free agent come the summer and that is the only reason why teams have not pulled the trigger on him already. Plus, his production has not been the greatest. But everything is changing in DeBrusk’s favour now. And with his agent coming out saying his client is willing to sign an extension as part of the trade package, it may help get this trade done sooner. Plus, if a team can get him at a cheaper AAV, who would not want a guy who is finally living up to his potential as a top-line player?

Columbus Blue Jackets – Max Domi
Rumor: Per Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Columbus Blue Jackets forward Max Domi is a player drawing interest from teams around the league.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are in a precarious position. Columbus is in a position fighting for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. However, they have several notable free agents that teams will be interested in at the deadline. Anything they do at the trade deadline will depend on the next three weeks. One of those players teams are interested in is Max Domi.
Domi is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He carries a reasonable salary-cap hit of $5.3 million. But the interesting thing about Domi is the teams looking at him will make him a winger. They feel he is better suited for that position than at centre. This season, Domi has recorded 25 points (nine goals and 16 assists) in 44 games. So there are teams out there like the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers looking to add a scoring winger. Domi does not have any trade protection, so trading him would be easy. Not to mention the Blue Jackets could help facilitate said trade by eating some of Domi’s salary.
The Blue Jackets are a team to keep an eye on with the deadline approaching.
Detroit Red Wings – Filip Zadina
Rumor: Per Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Filip Zadina is now number 12 on his Trade Bait Board and the feel is Detroit will be looking to move this player at the deadline.
We know Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings are not afraid to make a deal at the trade deadline, especially when it comes to players needing a change of scenery. Last year at the deadline, the Red Wings traded Anthony Mantha to the Washington Capitals. While Yzerman does not tip his hand, the feeling Seravalli is getting is that Filip Zadina is a player the Red Wings are looking to move this year at the deadline.
The number sixth overall pick from the 2018 NHL Draft has just not been able to find his game with the Detroit. There was so much hope for this young player. However, he has never been able to put it together at the NHL level. Zadina is a gifted shooter, but the feeling is that he has become more of a perimeter player. Thus, his shot has become less effective. Many inside the game feel his shot is not good enough for the perimeter. Thus he is a better scorer in the dirty areas.
When Zadina was playing on the top line, he was being showcased for teams around the league. And when he showed off his skill, teams started to get interested. The problem is the consistency with Zadina, hence why the Red Wings are hoping a change of scenery will help this player fulfill his potential.
That does it for the Thursday edition of NHL Rumors, stay tuned for two more editions this weekend.
