Welcome to the Wednesday edition Full Press Hockey’s NHL Rumors. The trade deadline is a little less than two weeks away and the rumors off the ice continue to swirl around players being moved and contending teams preparing for the push to the playoffs. Therefore, we here at Full Press Hockey will continue to deliver NHL Rumors four times a week. The March 9th edition of NHL rumors covers the Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Anaheim Ducks.
Toronto Maple Leafs – Interested in Travis Konecny, Justin Braun
Rumor: Per – Shane Senry – nhltraderumors.me. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers are two teams with very different strategies heading into the trade deadline.
The Flyers are sellers and will not be in the postseason. They trail a wild card spot by 25 points. Conversely, the Maple Leafs are buyers and looking for a forward and a defenseman.

Justin Braun makes $1.8 million and will be an unrestricted free agent. He’s a right shooter and the Leafs could use that. Braun is an experienced player with 100 playoff games on his resume. He is adept at blocking shots and is a contributor on the penalty kill as well. Seems like he would fit right in, and has a reasonable cap hit.
Travis Konecny has a cap hit of $5.5 million through 2024-25 and is having a down season with nine goals, 23 assists in 53 games. He has scored 20 or more goals three times in his six-year career.
For a deal to work for the Leafs, it may depend on the injury status of Jake Muzzin. If he is out until the postseason, it will make culminating a trade for Konecny much easier. Then again, Braun may be the easier route to at least help the faltering Toronto defence.

Philadelphia Flyers – Owen Tippett
Rumor: Per – Jeff Marek – sportsnet.ca. The Philadelphia Flyers are interested in Florida Panthers forward Owen Tippett.
Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher was spotted scouting Tippett. If the Panthers win the Claude Giroux sweepstakes, that may mean that Tippett would be part of a return to Florida. The Flyers certainly would hope that Tippett has top-six potential. The 23-year-old is a former first-round pick with six goals, eight assists in 42 games with the Panthers.
Tippett has really shown up playing in the AHL for the Charlotte Checkers. In eight games, he has two goals and eight assists. Depending on what happens with Giroux, Tippett could be headed to the Flyers. Fletcher has made it known that Tippett is available and this could just be one destination for him.
Anaheim Ducks – Jake DeBrusk
Rumor: Per – David Pagnotta – thefourthperiod.com. The Anaheim Ducks are expressing interest in Boston Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk.
While a number of teams have expressed interest in Jake DeBrusk, he may be a good addition for the Ducks. He will require a $4.41 million qualifying offer and is open to signing an extension if he gets traded. The Ducks have been playing good hockey, but are still in rebuild mode. Adding DeBrusk could be an insurance policy for other Ducks like Rickard Rakell, Hampus Lindholm, and Josh Manson with expiring contracts.
DeBrusk had 15 goals, 10 assists in 52 games, and recently tallied a hat trick. The Ducks are a young, sassy team who will only improve. It may just be the environment DeBrusk can excel in and help his new team. He is still adamant about wanting a trade, so why not to Anaheim?
That does it for Wednesday’s NHL rumors. Be sure to catch the next article!
