Chicago Blackhawks: Top 10 Prospects

This may not be the same Chicago team that won multiple Stanley Cups, however, the Blackhawks prospects give them hope for the future.

The Chicago Blackhawks rebuild has begun with a strong group of prospects in the pipeline.

It will take a while for them to start populating the big club. Some have had NHL stints and many of the others will get their chance in the future. This is a pretty good group but there are no superstars. Player development has slipped with the Blackhawks, but it can’t slip with many of them if they want the rebuild to be a short one.

Here are the Blackhawks’ Top 10 prospects. 

1. Lukas Reichel

Lukas Reichel, a highly talented winger, has a chance to win the AHL Rookie of the Year award. This skilled German has 19 goals and 43 points in 42 games and is a battler with a scorer’s touch and a solid two-way player.

2. Drew Commesso

Boston University goaltender, Drew Commesso, has taken a real talent leap in the last year. He’s solid in 1-on-1 situations and is a very good read and react goalie.

3. Nolan Allan

Defenseman Nolan Allan has a good offensive upside to go along with his winning puck battles and laying the body. His long reach and accurate wrist shot are big pluses in his game as well.

4. Landon Slaggert

Notre Dame star, Landon Slaggert, can play left wing or center. He showed well in the 2022 World Junior Camp. He’s a very good skater, with a goal-scoring touch and he can turn defense into offense on the penalty kill.

5. Ian Mitchell

This 23-year-old defenseman was rushed into the NHL, twice, but his first full season in the AHL has been beneficial. He’s fast, smart, getting physically stronger and working on his defense. The offense is there, and he will get another shot in Chicago before you know it.

6. Wyatt Kaiser

Wyatt Kaiser is a star at Minnesota Duluth. His skating is terrific, and he doesn’t panic under duress. He’s a smooth passer, very calm, and his willingness to block shots is important. His offense is good but not tremendous.

7. Colton Dach

Whether he plays center like his brother Kirby or left-wing, Colton Dach is a 6-foot-4 forward who can jam goalies in junior hockey. He has good hands and can score with his wrist shot too. Let’s see what happens when he turns pro.

8. Alex Vlasic

This 6-foot-6, 211-pound defensive defenseman recently made his NHL debut. Vlasic is a good skater, a leader, and plays big minutes. Blocks, hits, and clears are what he’s all about.

9. Ethan Del Mastro

Defenseman Ethan Del Mastro has been playing great for Mississaugua in the OHL. He has good wheels, a great wrist shot, and knows when to pinch to add that extra juice to the offense.

10. Wyatt Kalynuk

Wyatt Kaylynuk has played at the NHL level, but he had to round out his game. His offensive game and skating are terrific. Kalynuk can run a power play with an accurate point shot.
