Bruins Will Turn To Jeremy Swayman In Game Three

The Boston Bruins will turn to goalie Jeremy Swayman in game three against the Hurricanes as they look to avoid a 0-3 deficit.

After being dominated for much of the last six periods and facing a 0-2 series deficit to the Hurricanes, the Bruins will make a change in net to rookie Jeremy Swayman as the series shifts to Boston.

This isn’t so much about Linus Ullmark as it is the entire team. Ullmark has been good, not great, but given the effort of the team in front of him, it’s hard to fault the first-time playoff performer as the Bruins look to create a spark as they head back home.

Through the first two games, Ullmark has stopped 49 of the 57 shots he’s faced to the tune of a not-so-spectacular .860 save percentage and 4.16 goals-against average. Again, this is far more a reflection of a disjointed Bruins team effort as it is the individual performance of Ullmark.

“I think Linus has been fine,” Cassidy said after practice on Thursday. “As I said after Game 1, I think we’ve got to do a better job at the other end, but if it ends up being one of those 2-1 games, we need a performance where we get that timely save and give the guys some life.”

Well, the Bruins definitely need a shot of life in this series as they are dangerously close to going out with a whimper ahead of what could be another franchise-altering offseason this summer with the pending free agency of Patrice Bergeron.

Swayman started 39 games for the Bruins this season, posting a 23-14-3 record with a .914 save percentage and a 2.41 goals-against average. This will be his first postseason start.
