Arizona Coyotes Draft Will Almost Guarantee a Good Player
As has been discussed, the first four selections are pretty certain to be: 1) Shane Wright (C), 2) Logan Cooley (C), 3) Juraj Slafkovsky (LW), 4) Matthew Savoie (C). As noted, three of the first four picks play center. If ever, the Arizona Coyotes have an excellent shot at drafting a center who can certainly help their rebuild. Of course, the cream of the crop is Wright. But, if the Coyotes historical bad luck continues, they still have a good chance of selecting two other centers on the prospective list. And, Slafkovsky is no slouch. He stands 6′-4″, 218 pounds and is only 18 years old. That’s an NHL sized body, and with the way general manager Bill Armstrong has been building the Yotes to be a more physical, big team, he would fit right in that plan.

Lottery Rules Have Changed
So, the 2022 NHL lottery was changed in 2021. Now, it only consists of two drawings, one to decide the first overall pick and the other for the second pick. After that, the remaining draft selections will be determined on team records. With that said, the Coyotes will pick no lower that fourth in the 2022 draft held on July 7th in Montreal. If the Montreal Canadiens gain a top two selection, the Yotes would pick no lower than third.

Ideally, Shane Wright Would Help The Coyotes Going Forward
The Kingston OHL standout, Wright is a right-handed shot and an excellent playmaker. In 63 games at Kingston, he managed 62 assists as well as 32 goals. That computes to 1.49 points per game. He also tallied nine goals in five games at the 2021 IIHF U-18 World Championship. Imagining him on a line with Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz is something every Coyotes’ fan has to be wishing for. He would be the center point of Armstrong’s rebuild and a very dominating NHL player.
Logan Cooley Is Another Good Choice
Cooley, who just turned 18, is scheduled to attend the University of Minnesota. So, he may need some time to develop before jumping to the NHL. That doesn’t mean it will take four years. Just look at Clayton Keller ascension to the NHL. Cooley scored 13 goals, 23 assists in 24 games while in the USHL. He needs to put on some weight, just like Keller did but has some great potential.
Matthew Savoie Is Mr. Offense
Savoie can light the lamp as displayed by his 35 goals, 55 assists in 65 games. He played for the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL and is listed as 5′-9″, 179 pounds. He too will need to bulk up to play with the big boys in the NHL.
Building For The Future Through The Draft
The Coyotes are going about this rebuild in the proper fashion. Building through the draft has worked for numerous NHL teams. The Arizona franchise has had its challenges, but they are attempting to put a better product out on the ice. They are serious about getting to the playoffs. They can certainly have a much better chance with better players. Whether it will be Wright, Cooley, Slafkovsky, or Savoie, they will be getting a skilled player.
They may even surprise everyone with another choice, but as it stands the four listed players seem to be the way it will go down.
