The conference finals will begin today with the Avalanche taking on the Oilers in game one of their series. Considering the Avalanche have been favored for much of the season, it isn’t surprising they would edge out the Lightning, despite Tampa seeking their third-straight Stanley Cup victory. However, despite recent runs as the “favorite”, the Avalanche have not lived up to their expectations in recent years. Now, they must combat the dynamic duo of McDavid and Draisaitl, who are arguable one of the greatest pairs of all time.
The Lightning may be the best bet as they are fully rested, ready to take on an upstart New York Rangers team that just completed a grueling seven-game series with the Carolina Hurricanes. Will Igor Shesterkin continue his stellar play in net and limit the potent Tampa offense? That is likely the biggest factor, the play of both Shesterkin and Lightning goalie, Andrei Vasilveskiy.
The Eastern Conference Final begins on Wednesday.
