Boston Bruins Fire Head Coach Bruce Cassidy

After a 51-26-5 season and a disappointing first-round exit at the hand of the Carolina Hurricanes, the Boston Bruins have fired head coach Bruce Cassidy.

In five and half seasons as the Bruins bench boss, Cassidy led Boston to a 245-208-44 record and led the team to six-straight playoff performances, including a run to the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.

However, the Bruins Brass felt that that was not enough despite dealing with the departures of foundational pieces such as Zdeno Chara, David Krejci, and Tuukka Rask over the last few seasons and the being handicapped by the poor drafting and team-building of Sweeney and President Cam Neely.

Starting with the loss to the Blues in the Stanley Cup Final, the Bruins have sputtered each season in a similar fashion. The offense is too top-heavy and when they are needed the most, they come up empty. Look no further than the last few playoff exits for proof.

Now, coaching can certainly play a factor in all of that but the Bruins management is far from blameless in this fumbling of the team’s core group… they just get the first crack at serving the blame pie after firing Cassidy.
