SEASON SYNOPSIS
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers were rebranded as the Bridgeport Islanders prior to the 2021-22 AHL season. Under the new moniker, Bridgeport finished the regular season sixth in the Atlantic Division with a 31-30-11 record, 73 points, and a .507 points percentage. The Islanders also snuck into the Calder Cup Playoffs with a points percentage just .007 ahead of seventh place Hartford and .027 ahead of last place Lehigh Valley.
Also, for the first time in 19 years, the former Sound Tigers won a playoff series, defeating the Providence Bruins two games to none in the best-of-three first round. Bridgeport would then be eliminated in the Atlantic Division Semifinals three games to one by the Charlotte Checkers in a best-of-five second round series. In his 12th AHL season, forward Chris Terry led the team in total points (30G + 31A = 61 PTS in 61 GP). Centerman Otto Koivula chipped in 35 assists in 56 games played, leading the team in helpers. Netminder Corey Schneider completed the regular season with a .921 save percentage, good for fifth amongst qualified AHL goaltenders.
