SEASON SYNOPSIS
The Iowa Wild began the 2021-22 AHL campaign with a 9-5-1 record through November and December. The team slipped a little bit during the proceeding months, however, finding itself jockeying for playoff position in the Central Division come April. During that last month of regular season play, the Wild went 8-5-1 in a push for a postseason berth. Alas, down the stretch, Iowa lost two pivotal games to the Texas Stars, who ended up earning the sixth seed and final playoff spot in the Central. The Wild finished the year 32-31-9 with 73 points and a .507 points percentage.
Forwards Kyle Rau (25G + 28A), Marco Rossi (18G + 35A), and Mason Shaw (19G + 33A) all contributed over 50 points this season (53 total for the first two skaters, 52 for Shaw). Rau edged Mitchell Chaffee in goals by a count of 25 to 23, while Rossi eked out Shaw for the team lead in assists (35 to 33). Netminder Zane McIntyre carried the bulk of the goaltending workload, playing 40 games while going 21-15-3, posting a 2.48 goals against average, .919 save percentage, and two shutouts.
