SEASON SYNOPSIS
The Ontario Reign had a very impressive 2021-22 season in a battle against the Stockton Heat for the top spot in the Pacific Division. They finished the regular season with a 41-18-5-4 record and fell in their second playoff round after sweeping the San Diego Gulls in the first round. Their postseason hopes were cut short by a sweep from the Colorado Eagles.
Centerman T.J. Tynan was a force for the Reign, almost reaching the 100-point accomplishment through the regular season. Interestingly enough, it was driven mainly by assists. Tynan had 14 goals and 84 assists through the regular season for a total of 98 points. This performance earned him the Les Cunningham Award for the AHL’s most valuable player for the second year in a row. Forward Martin Frk was close behind in scoring with 73 points on 40 goals and 33 assists.

Matthew Villalta carried the bulk of the weight in net, playing 46 games through the regular season and earning a 2.98 GAA and .903 save percentage.
Tynan and Jordan Spence were named to the AHL’s First All-Star Team while Frk was named to the AHL’s Second All-Star Team. Spence also received another recognition, earning a spot on the AHL’s All-Rookie Team.
