SEASON SYNOPSIS
Despite a gut-punch ending, it would be short-sighted to deem the Manitoba Moose’s 2021-2022 campaign as anything other than a success.
Getting knocked out in the first round was tough, especially after clawing back from the brink of elimination to force a Game 5. But, you can’t define Manitoba’s season on that alone. Looking at things from a developmental perspective, there was an endless amount of positives in a vacuum.

Ep 37: NHL Free Agency Recapby Full Press Coverage on July 20, 2022 at 12:42 am
In this episode of Full Press Hockey Weekly, Mike Straw goes solo as he […]
Cole Perfetti, with 15 points in 17 games, evolved into an impact player and came into his own at the pro level. Ville Heinola rounded out his game amid some frustrating circumstances, finishing the year off with a strong playoff showing that all but punched his ticket to the big leagues next year. Declan Chisholm, Leon Gawanke, and Jonathan Kovacevic raised their respective stocks, too.
At the tail end of the season, ELC signings like Daniel Torgensson, Wyatt Bongiovanni, and Henri Nikkanen impressed the coaching staff enough that they muscled their way into the lineup in the lead-up to the playoffs (with the latter of the three suiting up in a playoff game).
The thing too was that the Jets’ AHL affiliate remained competitive all year long. Credit for that starts with head coach Mark Morrison, who impacted this group in his first year behind the helm. But we’d also be remiss not to tip our cap to Craig Heisinger, who assembled quality AHL personnel like the line of Evan Polei, Cole Maier, and Nick Jones (amongst others) who rounded out the roster.
Mikey Eyssimont led the team in scoring with 42 points (18G, 24A). Jeff Malott scored a team-high 23 goals, and Gawanke registered a team-high 26 assists.
