SEASON SYNOPSIS
The 2021-22 season was a bit of a roller coaster for the Cleveland Monsters. “Inconsistency” was the word players and coaches often used to describe the team throughout the season. There were weeks when they struggled to put points on the scoreboard. Then, the next week, Cleveland would dramatically find its scoring touch, putting up five or more goals multiple games in a row. When all was said and done, the Monsters had a paltry record of 28-35-8-5, giving them a .454 win % and placing them 29th in the league out of 31 teams. Despite the AHL having extended playoffs, Cleveland missed out on making the 2022 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Defender Jake Christiansen was a bright spot for the Monsters last season. He was Cleveland’s leading point scorer (45) and led the team in assists (32). From March 5-19, 2022, Christiansen went on an eight-game assist streak, notching eight assists over those eight games. At the end of the season, he earned the honor of being named to the 2021-22 AHL Second All-Star Team.

The Monsters saw five goalies take the ice during the 2021-22 season. Linden Marshall, Jet Greaves, Daniil Tarasov, Cam Johnson, and Jean-Francois Berube suited up and took their place between the pipes for Cleveland. However, only Greaves met the 1,440 minutes requirement to be considered a qualified goaltender. During the 2021-22 season, he had a record of 12-12-2, boasted a .905 sv%, and led the team with a 2.84 GAA.
