SEASON SYNOPSIS
On the surface, the Toronto Marlies’ 2021-2022 season was a letdown.
After eight consecutive playoff berths, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate didn’t reach the postseason for the first time since 2011. The Marlies didn’t have the veteran firepower — or rather, ‘AAAA’ skaters — that they had in years past. Toronto’s prospects didn’t generate all that much excitement either, with the exception of Nick Robertson (16G+12A in 28 GP).

Ep 51: Stanley Cup Playoff Bubble Teams; Connor McDavid On WBC Successby Full Press Coverage on March 22, 2023 at 11:54 pm
Jim and Chris are back and are talking about the playoff races in the East […]
All in all, it wasn’t really exciting.
However, with that said, there were some underrated signs of progress.
Forward Alex Steeves took a huge step forward in his first pro season, scoring 23 goals and tallying 46 points in 58 games. Speedster Bobby McMann and 6’8″ mammoth Curtis Douglas earned entry-level contracts, with the latter inching towards becoming a plausible (let alone terrifying) option for Toronto’s fourth line. And hey, Joey Anderson — 42 points in 56 games — could very well be the Maple Leafs’ 13th forward out of training camp.
(List accurate as of September 27th at 10:15pm ET)
