SEASON SYNOPSIS
The Texas Stars didn’t have the best showing during the 2021-22 season, posting a record of 32-28-6-6 and placing fifth in the Central Division. However, they were often able to bounce back and never let a big loss demoralize them. Plus, their 20.6% success rate on the power play made them a bit of a bear to deal with while up a man.
With the expanded postseason, the Stars were able to squeak into the 2022 Calder Cup Playoffs with a few percentage points above the Iowa Wild. Unfortunately, they were swept in a best-of-three series against the Rockford IceHogs. Forward Fredrick Karlstrom scored the lone Stars goal of the series.

Jim and Chris are back to discuss the beginning of the NHL preseason, the […]
Karlstrom might have been the Stars standout skater in the playoffs, but Anthony Louis was a positive consistent force during the regular season. In 66 games, Louis tallied 55 points (24g, 31a) and 11 power play goals. He finished the seasons first on the team in goals, points, and power play goals.
Despite seven different netminders suiting up for the Stars, Adam Scheel was the only one who met the 1300 minutes required to be a qualified goaltender. Scheel boasted a 11-10-7 record and 2.91 goals against average for the 2021-22 season.
However, it was newcomer Matt Murray who helped carry the Stars into a playoff spot. After signing an amateur tryout agreement on April 5, Murray won five of the six games he played with a 1.68 GAA and .947 sv%. In the final week of the season, Scheel was named AHL Player of the Week, earning his first professional shutout and stopping 101 of 103 shots he faced. During the playoffs, he held the IceHogs to three goals in two games.
