SEASON SYNOPSIS
The San Diego Gulls’ 2021-22 season was like a box of chocolates. You never knew what you were going to get. The inconsistency of the year was highlighted at the beginning of the season when they won one of five in October, six of 10 in November, and then one of seven in January. Once March rolled around, it felt as though the Gulls were firing on all cylinders and were going to close out the season on a high note. Then April hit, and they went on a seven-game winless streak to close out the season and finish seventh in the Pacific.Â
Luckily, for San Diego, the AHL expanded the 2022 Calder Cup Playoffs, allowing them to sneak into the postseason with a .463 points percentage. However, it was a short-lived playoff run for the Gulls, as they were swept in the first round by the Ontario Reign, 7-4 and 3-2.

Three players from the Gulls earned AHL Player of the Week honors during the 2021-22 season. Forward Brayden Tracey was named Player of the Week on November 28, 2021 after racking up seven points over the span of three games. Goaltender Lukas Dostal impressed the AHL at the end of February when he went 2-0, had a 1.01 GAA, and earned his first career shutout. His shutdown effort made him the youngest goaltender in AHL Gulls history to record a shutout. Forward Alex Limoges ended March with pizzazz, earning his first career hat trick and scoring eight point (7g,1a) in four games.Â
