Bruins Re-Sign David Krejci To One-Year Deal Worth $1 Million

David Krejci is officially returning to the Boston Bruins on a one-year deal worth $1 million as the team announced Monday morning.  In addition, Krejci has a $2 million performance-based incentive in his contract.

Krejci spent all 15 of his NHL seasons with the Bruins before heading back to play in his home country of the Czech Republic a season ago. Despite plenty of speculation throughout the season, Krejci didn’t return in 2021, a year in which the Bruins made the playoffs but were bounced in the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes.

In 51 games with Olomouc HC of the Czech League last season, Krejci tallied 20 goals and 26 assists for 46 points. He also had five points in five postseason games for his hometown club.

The Bruins will be facing an uphill battle early in the season with Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy recovering from injuries that will likely keep them out for several weeks to start the year. The return of Krejci, and captain Patrice Bergeron, who also officially signed a one-year deal Monday morning worth $2.5 million plus a $2.5 million performance-based incentive, will certainly help the Bruins stay afloat early on.

In his final season with the Bruins, David Krejci posted eight goals and 36 assists over 51 games and then added nine points in 11 playoff games. Look no further than the three Bruins Stanley Cup runs over the last 11 seasons to see Krejci’s importance to Boston’s success. During the 2011 Cup run, Krejci led all playoff scorers with 23 points. He followed that up with another postseason best, 26 points in 2013 during the Bruins run to the Final against the Blackhawks. Although he was not the leader in scoring in 2019, Krejci still accounted for 16 points in 24 games in yet another Stanley Cup Final run for the Bruins.

Upon his return, Krejci will likely assume his role as the second-line center between fellow Czech David Pastrnak and former Hart Trophy winner, Taylor Hall. Once again, assuming Bergeron is also set to return, the Bruins would be set up the middle for their top two lines. An issue that plagued them throughout the 2021-22 season.
