The Vancouver Canucks announced they have signed forward J.T. Miller to a seven-year contract extension worth $56 million. Miller’s new contract carries a salary cap hit of $8 million starting in the 2023-24 season. In addition, the contract comes with a full no-move clause and a limited no-trade clause in the final three years of the deal.

J.T. Miller Commits Long-Term To Vancouver
There was a lot of talk this off-season and even last season, that J.T. Miller was done in Vancouver. All that is put to bed now. This deal came together quickly according to his agent Brian Bartlett. According to Bartlett, the Canucks stepped up to the table as Miller is happy to remain with the Canucks long-term.
Bartlett – This came about real quick, the Canucks stepped up in the last couple of days. JT loves the market, he could have got more on open market 100%, he left money on the table but he made the decision he wants to stay in VAN and spend his career in VAN and win Cups.

Miller was entering the final season of a five-year, $25.25 ($5.25 AAV) he signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning back in June of 2018. The Canucks acquired Miller from the Lightning in June of 2019. All he has done since entering the lineup has made an impact. Especially last season, where he set career highs with 99 points (32 goals and 67 assists) including 38 powerplay points. At one point during the season, Miller had a 13-game point streak where he recorded 27 points. Miller was the best player for the Canucks last season. Through three seasons with the Canucks, Miller has recorded 217 points (74 goals, 143 assists) in 202 games.
“J.T. Miller is an impact player in this League and we are thrilled to have him re-signed with the Canucks long term,” said Vancouver general manager Patrik Allvin in a statement on Friday night. “His production last season speaks for itself and his competitive drive provides a standard that our players can look up to. He will continue to be a key piece of this team for years to come.”
Prior to the 99-point season, Miller’s best season was his first season with Vancouver where he recorded 72 points.

What This Means Going Forward
There has been a lot of trade speculation surrounding Miller’s status with the Canucks. As far as head coach Bruce Boudreau was concerned he was a member of the Canucks organization when training camp was going to open in September. This would have been a different situation for the Canucks if they had not re-signed Miller prior to the start of training camp.
If he continued to produce, his price would have only risen on the open market. Not to mention, the rumours surrounding his status would have continued to ramp up. Especially if the Canucks struggled. And if the Canucks kept him for another season by not moving him at the trade deadline there would have been questions surrounding that decision. But now all that goes away. J.T. Miller remains with the Vancouver Caucks.
