While you were sleeping the Dallas Stars and Jason Robertson ended their stalemate. Robertson signed a four-year contract extension worth $31 million. His new contract with the Stars carries a salary cap hit of $7.75 million a season.

Jason Robertson Signs Extension With Dallas
With the season approaching there was panic setting inside the Stars organization. Though they were not going to show it publicly. However, not having a key piece like Robertson in their opening night lineup would be difficult to swallow.
However, as Elliotte Friedman pointed out in his 32 Thoughts Podcast, from what he was told “there are people who feel that there has been enough traction made that it should be done or close to it. It is just not there yet.”
With Stars general manager Jim Nill and Jason Robertson being patient throughout this entire process, both parties were willing to wait it out until the right deal came along. And while there was no official deadline for getting a deal done, both parties knew it was going to be better to get a deal done sooner rather than later. Hence, why Robertson and the Stars got a deal signed in the midnight hour. He is the Stars future and Nill knew that.
“Jason is an integral part of the present and future of our team and we’re thrilled to have him for the next four years,” Stars general manager Jim Nill wrote in a press release. “Since he was drafted by our organization, he has worked tirelessly to become a better player every day. His knack for scoring goals and seeing plays develop on the ice are just some of the tremendous assets that he brings to our team. He is one of the best young players in the NHL and we look forward to seeing him continue to progress.”

What Robertson Has Brought To Dallas Thus Far
Since being drafted 39th overall in the second round of the 2017 NHL Draft, all Robertson has done is made an impact with the Stars. A restricted free agent no more, Robertson was coming off a great sophomore season. In 74 games, Robertson recorded 79 points (a team-leading 41 goals along with 38 assists). He finished only four points behind Joe Pavelski‘s 81 points in 74 games. In addition, during the Stars seven-game series loss to Calgary, Robertson recorded four points (one goal and three assists).
During his rookie campaign with the Stars, Robertson shot up the Calder Trophy rankings finishing behind Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov. In the 2020-21 season, Robertson recorded 45 points (17 goals and 28 assists) in 51 games. At one point during his rookie season, Robertson had 13 points in nine games. Talk about coming on the scene and making an impact!
Moving forward, Dallas hopes Robertson can continue his projections and carry the Stars top line with Pavelski and Roope Hintz. Back on September 1st, the Stars re-signed goalie Jake Oettinger to a three-year, $12 million ($4 million AAV).
