The Colorado Eagles were coming off of one of their worst games of the year against the Ontario Reign this past Wednesday. Last night, they took on the Henderson Silver Knights for the seventh time this season. The Eagles own the series so far with a 3-2-1 record and were hoping to add another win to it. Colorado has been on a tear where they were getting a lot of shots but no goals. Tonight, luck was in their favor. Ben Meyers would go on to score his second goal of the year as luck has eluded him with the Avalanche (one goal in 28 games played).
First Period
Colorado came on strong with eight shots on goal before Henderson could get their first. The return of Meyers on the top line for the Eagles means that their first forward line has a little punch to it. With about 8:05 left in the period, Nate Clurman took a shot from the right point that hit Meyers. He gathered the shot and took his own in the slot, but it was blocked as well. Meyers attempted a second wrister that found its way past Henderson goaltender Jiri Patera.

The Silver Knights would strike back right at the end of a man advantage. Spencer Foo would roll into the zone basically untouched, pushing the puck forward to Jonas Rondbjerg. He sent a pass to the mid slot to Ivan Morozov, who was wide open and snapped it past Colorado goaltender Jonas Johansson.
Around The AHL
Second Period
The Silver Knights would start to turn on the gas a little bit but to no avail. Early in the period at one minute in, Jean-Luc Foudy led the rush into the zone as Charles Hudon and Alex Galchenyuk went down low. Foudy sent it to the right side of the net to Hudon, and he finished the tic-tac-toe pass to Galchenyuk on the left. Galchenyuk slammed a one-timer past the diving Patera to take back the lead. From that point forward, it was all Henderson as the Silver Knights bombarded Johansson with fourteen shots.
Third Period
The third period became somewhat eventful in ways other than scoring. Keaton Middleton had already engaged in a fight in the first period, and the third was no different. Kyle Marino went for a hit on Middleton in the corner and the two immediately started to toss their fists. Middleton was ejected with a game misconduct because it was his second fight of the game. In the last thirty seconds of the game, Meyers was hit in the defensive zone by Kaedan Korczak as he tried to exit the zone. The two went right to center ice and dropped their gloves in what would become Meyers’ first AHL fight.
Conclusion
The Eagles were able to get on the board early and maintain that momentum through the entire game, Although they were spending an awful lot of time in the penalty box (five minor penalties), Colorado kept its composure. The Silver Knights were trying to rough up the Eagles and they were not letting that bother them at all this time around. Colorado held the lead through a period and a half and won 2-1 by playing with some grit.
The two meet again tonight to close out the season series in Henderson (7:00pm PST / 8:00pm MST).
