It was Super Bowl weekend and yet there was excessive chatter about a Jakob Chychrun trade. It was all over the internet about a prospective trade with the Los Angeles Kings. Nick Kypreos posted it like it was a done deal. Well, guess what? It’s not!
Reliable Sources
Elliotte Friedman of sportsnet.ca. mentioned on his 32 Thoughts podcast that the hangup could be a contract the Kings want to send back to the Coyotes. The Jakob Chychrun trade was rumored to revolve around the Kings sending a young prospect back to Arizona. It was also reported that the Kings have told Brandt Clarke that he would NOT be traded as was rumored.

This really complicates the entire trade scenario and has fans scratching their heads as to what is happening. The Kings certainly have other prospects that they can include in a trade, but Quinton Byfield won’t be one who the Kings will move either.
If Not The Kings, Then Who?
With a snag in the possible trade with the Kings, could another team swoop in and grab him? The Boston Bruins showed some interest in acquiring Chychrun recently. What we also know is according to Jeff Marek of sportsnet.ca, the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs are out of the Chychrun sweepstakes.
It also seems that the Ottawa Senators are not wanting to accept the return that general manager Bill Armstrong has in mind. That’s according to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.
What started out as a long list of teams interested in Chychrun has dwindled down quite a bit. We may know more today, but if Chychrun suits up at the Coyotes game in Nashville, what then?
This saga has gone on way too long due to the fact that Armstrong doesn’t NEED to trade Chychrun at all. He is still under contract for two more seasons after this one.

Final Thoughts
Jakob Chychrun trade rumors have filled the news in the hockey world for over a year now. I’d say most are exhausted with every senario presented. It seems like he could be traded anytime now.
But what if he isn’t? After holding him out of a game Saturday night and the team explaining why, can they NOT trade him now? Doubtful.
ROSTER UPDATE: Coyotes D Jakob Chychrun is a healthy scratch tonight versus the St. Louis Blues due to trade related reasons. F Liam O'Brien is day to day with an upper body injury. Defensemen Victor Soderstrom & Dysin Mayo have been recalled from the Tucson Roadrunners (AHL).

Hopefully, the drama will end soon and the Coyotes will either complete the rumored Kings trade or find another suitor. It’s been going on way too long now. It has to be stressful for the team, for Chychrun and the entire organization.
Chychrun wants to leave and the team is attempting to accommodate his desires. There’s a deal somewhere. The Coyotes hope to acquire some prospects and picks in order to move their rebuild forward.
Trades aren’t always an easy task. Both teams must agree to the terms of a proposed deal. Armstrong has held firm and he knows what he’s doing. As the day progresses, we may discover a trade has been announced. Until then, it’s all conjecture and rumors. So, stay connected to Craig Morgan or Kevin Weekes for any breaking news from a verified source.
Here’s what Craig Morgan just tweeted about Chychrun’s playing status for tonight’s game.
Here's what coach André Tourigny told Adam Vingan about Jakob Chychrun in Nashville (I am not on the road):
