NHL 2023 Playoff Races as of March 20, 2023

Welcome to a new series from Full Press Hockey. With NHL rumors slowing down until the summer draft, we will only cover them once a week on Sundays. To replace the Wednesday rumors article, we will present a daily analysis of the playoff races called NHL 2023 playoff races. The analysis will be done daily when enough games affecting the playoffs are scheduled, with the article being published every morning after games are played. We will cover trends in the standings, and which teams are hot and which teams are not. With less than 20 games remaining in the 2022-23 season, all NHL fans will be tracking their team’s progress to see where they will finish.

NHL Scores for March 19, 2023:

Boston Bruins vs Buffalo Sabres

Jeremy Swayman stopped 26 shots to post his second consecutive shutout, David Pastrnak matched a career-high by scoring his team-leading 48th goal, and the NHL-leading Bruins routed the reeling Buffalo Sabres 7-0 on Sunday. This is two teams headed in opposite directions. The Bruins are running away with the best record in the NHL, and the Sabres have gone just 2-6-2 over their last 10 games.

Washington Capitals vs Minnesota Wild

Matt Boldy recorded his second career hat trick and the Minnesota Wild rebounded to beat Washington 5-3 on Sunday. The Wild moved to within one point of the Dallas Stars with both teams having 12 games left. The Caps are five points out of a wild-card with just 11 games remaining. They need to start winning and soon.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights needed to respond to a five-goal loss just three nights earlier, and Jack Eichel made sure they did it emphatically.

Eichel scored three goals Sunday, and the Golden Knights used a four-goal second period take control and beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-2. Vegas holds a small two-point margin over the L.A. Kings.

Nashville Predators vs New York Rangers

Defenseman K’Andre Miller had two goals and two assists in New York’s six-goal first period, Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves for his first shutout of the season, and the Rangers beat the Nashville Predators 7-0 on Sunday night. The Rangers scored 13 goals in their last two games and didn’t allow a goal. Nashville is five points back of a playoff spot but have 14 games remaining.

Winnipeg Jets vs St. Louis Blues

Kasperi Kapanen, Nathan Walker and Jakub Vrana each scored to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 3-0 victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night. This loss hurt the Jets playoff plans with the Flames just four points behind with a game in hand. The Blues played the spoiler here.

New Jersey Devils vs Tampa Bay Lightning

Jesper Bratt scored three goals for his first NHL hat trick as the New Jersey Devils rallied from two goals down and beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-2 Sunday night to end a three-game skid. New Jersey moved to within one point of the Hurricanes with this important win. The Lightning are still three points behind Toronto, but have played two more games.

Vancouver Canucks vs Anaheim Ducks
