NHL 2023 Playoff Races as of March 24, 2023

Welcome to a new series from Full Press Hockey. With NHL rumors slowing down until the summer draft, we will only cover them once a week on Sundays. To replace the Wednesday rumors article, we will present a daily analysis of the playoff races called NHL 2023 playoff races. The analysis will be done daily when enough games affecting the playoffs are scheduled, with the article being published every morning after games are played. We will cover trends in the standings, and which teams are hot and which teams are not. With less than 20 games remaining in the 2022-23 season, all NHL fans will be tracking their team’s progress to see where they will finish.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Colorado Avalanche

Sidney Crosby wasn’t even aware of reaching yet another milestone. He’s simply locked in on helping the Pittsburgh Penguins make a 17th straight postseason appearance. The win for the Pens jumped them over the idle Florida Panthers to take over the second wild-card spot they relinquished due to a four-game losing skid.

Arizona Coyotes vs Edmonton Oilers

Connor McDavid scored his 60th goal of the season with his second of the game 1:31 into overtime to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-3 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday night. The Oilers’ win moved them to within two points of the Kings and six points of the Golden Knights.

Minnesota Wild vs Philadelphia Flyers

James van Riemsdyk scored the only goal in a shootout, and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Minnesota Wild 5-4 on Thursday night for coach John Tortorella’s 700th career victory. The shootout loss gave the Wild one point, and they still trail the Dallas Stars by a single point.

Montreal Canadiens vs Boston Bruins

David Pastrnak scored his 49th goal, Tyler Bertuzzi had a goal and an assist, and the Boston Bruins overcame a sluggish performance to beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 on Thursday night for their fifth straight victory. The Bruins are rolling on all cylinders and the Habs are awaiting to see where they place in the Bedard sweepstakes.

New York Rangers vs Carolina Hurricanes

Adam Fox ended a 24-game stretch without a goal and the New York Rangers overcame the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2-1 victory Thursday night. The Rangers are creeping up on the Devils who still have a four-point lead. These two playoff contenders seem ready for the postseason.

St. Louis Blues vs Detroit Red Wings

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Florida Panthers

Brothers Eric and Marc Staal of the Florida Panthers declined to wear special Pride-themed warmup jerseys ahead of the team’s 6-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. The second straight loss by the Panthers hurt their playoff objectives.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs Ottawa Senators

Alex DeBrincat and Brady Tkachuk each scored two goals and the Ottawa Senators cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. With just 10 games remaining for the Sens, every game is vital, and the Ottawa club showed up big time for this game.

Chicago Blackhawks vs Washington Capitals

John Carlson had a goal and an assist in his return from a fractured skull, and the Washington Capitals beat the Chicago Blackhawks 6-1 on Thursday night. The Capitals are still in the playoff hunt, but only have nine games left to make a move.

Seattle Kraken vs Nashville Predators

Matt Duchene and Philip Tomasino scored in the shootout to lead the Nashville Predators to a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Thursday night. Seattle now has a two-point lead over the Jets and has two games in hand. Nashville still has 13 games left, which will help their quest for a playoff berth.

Vegas Golden Knights vs Calgary Flames

Logan Thompson‘s triumphant return for Vegas was overshadowed by another injury. Before he departed with just over six minutes to go, Thompson made 37 saves as the surging Golden Knights beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 on Thursday night. The Flames have 10 games remaining and are four points from a playoff spot.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Dallas Stars

Joe Pavelski scored the tie-breaking goal on a third-period power play, and the Stars overcame Sidney Crosby‘s first career goal in Dallas in a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night. The Stars jumped back into first place in the Central and the Pens continue to slide with a mediocre 4-5-1 record in their last 10 games.

Winnipeg Jets vs Anaheim Ducks

Adam Lowry scored the tie-breaking goal with 9:13 to play and the Winnipeg Jets made progress in the playoff race with a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night. The Preds are five points from a wild-card spot with three games-in-hand. This was a must win for the Jets.

San Jose Sharks vs Vancouver Canucks
