2023 NHL Playoff Races as of March 29, 2023

Welcome to a new series from Full Press Hockey. With NHL rumors slowing down until the summer draft, we will only cover them once a week on Sundays. To replace the Wednesday rumors article, we will present a daily analysis of the playoff races called NHL 2023 playoff races. The analysis will be done daily when enough games affecting the playoffs are scheduled, with the article being published every morning after games are played. We will cover trends in the standings, and which teams are hot and which teams are not. With less than 20 games remaining in the 2022-23 season, all NHL fans will be tracking their team’s progress to see where they will finish.

Nashville Predators vs Boston Bruins

Juuse Saros stopped 35 shots, Cody Glass scored late in the second period and the Nashville Predators beat NHL-best Boston 2-1 on Tuesday night, halting the Bruins’ seven-game winning streak. Chasing the Western Conference’s eighth and final playoff spot, the Predators won for just the third time in eight games. Former Bruins defenseman Jeremy Lauzon added an empty netter late in the third.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs Carolina Hurricanes

Brayden Point had two goals and an assist and the Tampa Bay Lightning snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 4-0 Tuesday night. Carolina leads the Metropolitan Division by three points over the New Jersey Devils.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Detroit Red Wings

David Perron had a hat trick in the third period and the Detroit Red Wings overcame the ejection of coach Derek Lalonde to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-4 on Tuesday night. With eight games remaining, the Pens still hold a thin three-point lead over Florida.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs  New York Rangers

Filip Chytil, Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane scored early and Igor Shesterkin made 28 saves as the New York Rangers beat the hapless Columbus Blue Jackets 6-2 on Tuesday night. The Rangers are 9-1-1 in their last 11 and moved two points behind second-place New Jersey in the Metropolitan Division.

Montreal Canadiens vs Philadelphia Flyers

Dallas Stars vs Chicago Blackhawks

Tyler Seguin, Colin Miller, Joe Pavelski and Luke Glendening scored as the Dallas Stars topped the skidding Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 on Tuesday night. Dallas improved to 94 points and climbed into a second-place tie with idle Colorado in the tight Central Division. First-place Minnesota has 95 points.

Los Angeles Kings vs Calgary Flames

Jacob Markstrom was spectacular on Tuesday making 32 saves to backstop the Calgary Flames to a critical 2-1 victory over the red-hot Los Angeles Kings. The Flames opened the night four points behind the Winnipeg Jets, who occupy the final wild-card berth in the NHL’s Western Conference.

Edmonton Oilers vs Vegas Golden Knights

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins tied a career-high with five points, and Edmonton’s top-ranked power play scored three goals as the Oilers beat the Vegas Golden Knights 7-4 on Tuesday night to tighten the Pacific Division race. The Oilers, who extended their point streak to eight games, have 95 points and are three behind first-place Vegas. Los Angeles lost 2-1 to Calgary and remains in second place with 96 points.

Winnipeg Jets vs San Jose Sharks
