NHL Rumors: Vegas Golden Knights, Los Angeles Kings, and Philadelphia Flyers

Welcome to another edition of Full Press Hockey’s NHL Rumors! Even with the Stanley Cup Final going on the rumor mill is flying. There is an offseason that is going on even as the teams that did not make the playoffs or got eliminated start getting ready for the next season. The NHL Draft is approaching quickly and so too is NHL Free Agency. As we saw last year the goalie carousel will be something to watch this free agency period. And that is the subject of today’s NHL Rumors as we look at the Vegas Golden Knights, Los Angeles Kings, and Philadelphia Flyers.

Golden Knights Could Run Back Playoff Goalie Duo Come Next Year

Willie G Ramirez of ESPN Las Vegas on the Full Press NHL Podcast: Ramirez told Full Press Hockey that the Golden Knights have an interesting situation involving their goalies this offseason.

Adin Hill, who has been sensational since entering the playoffs against the Edmonton Oilers is an unrestricted free agent. He is due a new contract and probably will get a raise this offseason. And with the goalies they have on the roster, Ramirez is unsure what they are going to do next season.

“You still have Robin Lehner on the roster and his current contract, you have Adin Hill, you have Laurent Brossoit, who re-injured himself in the Edmonton series and Logan Thompson. Not to mention Jonathan Quick, who will not be brought back. You have some question marks about who should be your starting goaltender going into next season and the way Hill and Brossoit are playing this postseason, I wonder if those are the guys you look to sign and if you look to deal Logan Thompson with Robin Lehner out the door.” 

Kings Will Need A Goalie As They Plan Not To Re-Sign Joonas Korpisalo

Dennis Bernstein of the Fourth Period on the Full Press NHL Podcast: The Los Angeles Kings were able to clear cap space by sending Sean Walker and Cal Petersen to Philadelphia as part of the Ivan Provorov three-team trade allowing them to extend Vladislav Gavrikov for two more years. However, this leaves the Kings with just one goalie.

Bernstein stated that he does not think Joonas Korpisalo will be re-signed by the Kings. Thus they will look elsewhere. It probably won’t be John Gibson. Anaheim will not trade him to their crosstown rival. Do they go Connor Hellebuyck? If they do he thinks an extension will have to be involved as the Kings are in win-now mode.

Or do the Kings get a cheaper option that costs $2-$3 million on the salary cap as he does not believe GM Rob Blake will take a big swing this offseason. Bernstein wonders if they go after a guy like Frederik Andersen.

Regardless the Kings need to sign a goalie this offseason.

Philadelphia Continues To Shop Carter Hart

Anthony Di Marco of the Fourth Period: Di Marco was on TSN radio this past week and confirmed what David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period stated and that Carter Hart is being shopped by Philadelphia.

Di Marco mentions you can see by the Ivan Provorov trade and the return the Flyers got in the three-team trade, they are rebuilding. General manager Daniel Briere is selling and trying to get as many assets as possible. And Hart’s name continues to come up in internal discussions.

The key to this deal DiMarco notes is the return for Hart. Can they get a sufficient return for Hart to make the trade happen? Considering Hart’s age and skill, the Flyers will most likely want a decent return. It begins with a first-round pick and two additional assets for a player like Hart. Again, it all depends on whether the trade happens as the NHL Draft is approaching. This one could take a little bit to get done.
