Devils Acquire Tyler Toffoli From Calgary

The New Jersey Devils bolstered their offense on Tuesday as they acquired 31-year-old forward Tyler Toffoli from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Yegor Sharangovich and a 2023 third-round pick.

The Devils will be the Scarborough, Ontario native’s fifth different team since the start of the 2019-20 season after spending the first seven full seasons with the Los Angeles Kings who helped lead to a Stanley Cup Championship during the 2013-14 season. Toffoli has one year remaining on a contract that pays him $4.5 million a season.

Toffoli enjoyed a career year with the Flames in 2022 notching 34 goals and 39 assists in 82 games. This came on the heels of Captaining Team Canada to the Gold Medal at the World Championships. Calgary acquired the veteran forward at the 2021 trade deadline from the Montreal Canadiens, who orignally signed him to his current contract.

In 733 career games over 11 seasons with the Kings, Canucks, Canadiens, and Flames, Toffoli registered 227 goals and 239 assists to go along with 18 goals and 26 assists over 88 career postseason games.

Sharangovich, New Jersey’s fifth-round pick in 2018, played 205 games for the Devils, including 75 in 2022 where he tallied 13 goals and 17 assists. He had a career-best 24 goals in 76 games during the 2021-22 season.

As a team, the Devils scored the fourth most goals in the league with 291.
