SEASON SYNOPSIS
The Toronto Marlies started their 2022-23 season off with a bang, going 19-9-1-1 during the first half. Their 40 points led head coach Greg Moore to become the third person to ever be named to the AHL All-Star Classic as both a player (in 2008 and a coach. Joining Coach Moore in Laval for the 2023 All-Star Classic were his players Logan Shaw, Noel Hoefenmayer, and Joseph Woll.
At the end of the season, the Marlies finished first in the North with a record of 42-24-4-2 and 90 points, giving them a bye in the first round of the playoffs. It was a strong start for the Marlies in the postseason as they took down the Utica Comets three games to one in the North Division Semifinals. Unfortunately, the Rochester Americans were too hot to handle and the Marlies were swept in the North Division Finals.

Ep 68: Auston Matthews Extension, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Much More
by Full Press Coverage on September 1, 2023 at 2:23 am
Jim and Chris are back to chat about the Auston Matthews extension, the […]
Special teams was one of the stronger areas for AHL Toronto during the regular season. They finished second in the league on the power play (23.6%), fifth in the league with 65 power play goals, 13th in the league on the penalty kill (81.5%), and tied for fifth in the league with nine short handed goals. The well-rounded play throughout entire games made it difficult for many teams in the North to have success against the Marlies.
During the regular season, captain Logan Shaw led the team in goals (21), assists (48), points (69), and power play goals (10). Shaw also finished eighth in the league in points and sixth in the league in assists. In seven postseason games, he led the Marlies in both assists (6) and points (10).
At the end of the 2022-23 season, Shaw was voted the winner of the Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award, which is given to the AHL player who exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship, determination, and dedication to hockey.
