Trio Of Bruins Take Home Awards Monday Night

Getting bounced in the first round wasn’t quite the finish the record-setting Bruins were hoping for in 2022 so they will have to settle for a hat trick on NHL Awards night.

Head coach Jim Montgomery (Jack Adams Award), captain Patrice Bergeron (Selke Award), and goalie Linus Ullmark (Vezina Trophy) all took home individual awards Monday night as the league honored the best players, coaches, and teams from the 2022-23 season. In addition to the individual wins, the duo of Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman won the Jennings Trophy for the fewest goals allowed and David Pastrnak (61 goals) finished second behind Connor McDavid for the Hart Trophy.

In his first season behind the bench for the Bruins, Montogomery led the ‘Black-and-Gold’ to a record number of wins (65) and points (135) as they won the President’s Trophy and became the fourth team to lead their division for the entire season. Montgomery became the first Jack Adams Award winner since his predecessor, Bruce Cassidy, won the award following the 2019-20 season.

Goalie Linus Ullmark – Vezina Trophy Winner

Linus Ullmark became the fifth Bruins goalie to take home the Vezina Trophy and the first since Tim Thomas won in both 2009 and 2011. Ullmark accounted for 40 of the Bruins’ 65 wins, tying a franchise record while leading the league in just about every statistical category. In addition, Ullmark became the 13th goalie to score a regular season goal. He accomplished this feat in a win over the Canucks in February.

Center Patrice Bergeron – Selke Trophy Winner

The highlight of the night for the Bruins was Patrice Bergeron’s record sixth Selke Trophy win, an award for the best defensive forward in the NHL. It is an extension of a record he already owns and set last season. It is also the second time he has won the award on back-to-back occasions. However, with his future uncertain, another Stanley Cup would have been preferable.
