Welcome to another edition of Full Press Hockey’s NHL Rumors! The focus has shifted toward the new season. Teams are always looking to improve, and the excitement of a new NHL season is upon us. With the American Thanksgiving used as a gauge for playoff contention, the rumors are hot and heavy!
In this Wednesday edition of NHL Rumors, we’ll examine the Tampa Bay Lightning, Edmonton Oilers, and the Seattle Kraken.
NHL rumors in this edition include:
Will Steven Stamkos be traded? The Oilers have given permission for Philip Broberg to seek a trade. Three trade candidates for the Seattle Kraken.
Tampa Bay Lightning – Steven Stamkos
Rumor: Per – Elliotte Friedman – sportsnet.ca. What happens if Tampa is a bubble team and Stamkos isn’t signed at the end of the season?
Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois may be forced into at least considering trading his star forward if they barely make the playoffs this season.
EF (32TP): “What happens if Tampa is a bubble team and Stamkos isn’t signed at the end of the season?”
Marek: “Well, that’s what Julien BriseBois talked about at the beginning of the season, we need to see what the season is going to be like here”
EF: “Teams are going to call”

One team that could be heavily favored to seek out Stamkos could be the Boston Bruins. Stamkos currently has 25 points in 24 Lightning games and would fit in nicely with the Bruins, who are doing fine but can always use more firepower. The sticking point would be Stamkos’ $8.5 million cap hit. He also holds a no-movement clause requiring his approval of any potential trade. While the Bruins currently lack cap space, the proposed increase to $87.7 million for next season would give them some space to operate.
It’s always tough to trade your captain, but it wouldn’t be the first time it happened. Things would need to be pretty desperate for the Tampa Bay club to trade him, but you never know. Stay with NHL rumors for the latest on this developing story.
Edmonton Oilers – Philip Broberg
Rumor: Per – Frank Seravalli – dailyfaceoff.com. The Oilers have given Broberg permission to seek a trade. Where might he end up?
Understand the #Oilers granted permission for Philip Broberg’s camp to seek a trade. Sounds like there has been solid interest on that front.
Edmonton isn’t interested in getting a pick back, they’d like a player. So you’ll have to likely find a player in a similar situation.

If the Oilers want a player back, they really won’t be able to get much, considering that Broberg is in the last year of his entry-level contract and hasn’t played much. A better solution may be to package both Broberg and Jack Campbell into a trade. That way, the Edmonton team can eliminate Campbell’s $5 million cap hit through the 2026-27 season. If the Oilers can acquire another goalie and a young defenseman, they may pull the trigger.
Broberg has only played in 79 games with just two goals and nine assists. He needs a change of scenery and some ice time. Some possibilities for where he may go include the Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Seattle Kraken – Three trade candidates
Rumor: Per – Michael DeRosa – nhltraderumors.me. The Kraken have crashed this season, and may become sellers unless things improve drastically.
With an uninspiring 8-11-6 record thus far this season, the Kraken may wind up being sellers come the trade deadline. Here are three players they may decide to move at the deadline.
- Jordan Eberle – If he is not extended soon, he will more than likely be shopped. He is an excellent second-line forward, but it is getting up there in age at 33. He has 12 points in 23 games this season and carries a $5.5 million cap hit through this season. Certainly, a playoff-bound team would be interested in adding him to their roster.
- Justin Schultz – He would also be a good pickup by a playoff team, seeing that his cap hit is only $3 million. He has collected nine points in 26 games this season. He has power play abilities, as evidenced by his NHL career of 14 goals and 104 assists on the man advantage.
- Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – This veteran can certainly help a playoff team. He’s adept at faceoffs and plays great defense. He only has a cap hit of $775,000 and will be an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the season.
That concludes this edition of NHL rumors. Be sure to catch our next article, and thanks for reading!
