SEASON SYNOPSIS
After the 2021 offseason shuffle of the Binghamton Devils heading to Utica and the original Comets moving closer to Vancouver, the Abbotsford Canucks gave the Canadian province of British Columbia its first taste of AHL hockey since the Abbotsford Heat departed in 2014. In the Abby ‘Nucks first season of existence, the team finished tied for fourth in the Pacific Division season standings (39-23-6, 84 points, .618 points percentage). Abbotsford was eliminated in the best-of-three play-in round, losing two games to none to the Bakersfield Condors.
Sheldon Rempal led all Canucks players with 69 points (33G + 36A) in just 55 games played, good for eighth overall in AHL league scoring. Fellow forward Sheldon Dries was not far behind with 35 goals and 27 assists for 62 points in 54 games played. Defenseman Jack Rathbone contributed at slightly over a point-per-game clip (10G + 30A = 40 PTS in 39 GP), earning a one-way, two-year NHL contract with Vancouver on July 1. Netminder Spencer Martin also had a career year, posting a 19-4-2 record with a 1.74 goals against average and .950 save percentage with three shutouts. He also signed a one-way, two-year NHL contract on April 8.
